It is a derivative of the XT-IDE interface but unlike the XT-IDE which allowed for the connection of an IDE hard drive (or CF card with an adapter) this interface allows, natively, a Compact Flash card to be used as a hard drive on older computers like the IBM-XT, AT, and clones with an 8-Bit ISA bus.
